A Life and Service Remembered

Lieutenant Andrew Binnington was one of two brothers from the Binnington family of St. Marys who served with The Perth Regiment during the Second World War.

A wartime newspaper article about his younger brother, Sergeant Harry Binnington, noted that Andrew was also serving overseas with the regiment. The brief reference places the brothers together in the same military family tradition, both connected to one of the best-known local regiments in the area.

Their mother, Mabel Binnington, had two sons serving abroad while their late father, Thomas Binnington, had already passed away. The surviving newspaper clipping offers only a small glimpse of Andrew’s individual service, at this time we have not located a public service summary for Harry to confirm dates and his wartime movements.

Lieutenant Andrew Binnington is remembered today as part of the St. Marys community’s contribution to Canada’s Second World War effort.
