A Life and Service Remembered

Henry Joseph Bouliane, known as Hank was born in Windsor on 9 December 1923, the son of Eugene and Marie Bouliane. His service carried him into one of the most distinctive fighting units of the Second World War, the First Special Service Force, widely remembered by its nickname, the Devil’s Brigade. A published roster of former members lists him as “Private H. J. Bouliane, 1-3”,

After the war, Henry built a steady working life as a welder, a trade that takes patience, strength, and pride in getting things right. He married Madeline, and together they raised a large family. His obituary names their children as Linda, Kathy, John, Patty, Barbara, Mary, Diane, and Nancy, and it speaks to the size of the circle they built around them, including many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hank died on 19 December 2009 at the age of 86.

Hank is honored in St. Marys through Branch 236’s Veteran Banner Program. This page is part of Branch 236’s 100th anniversary effort to keep each Veteran’s name present in the community and to build an online memorial that treats every name as worth the work of remembering.

At this time, we have not located a public service summary for Henry “Hank” Bouliane that confirms more than just unit details surrounding service number, or specific dates of service are not publicly available online and may require access through official channels or family-held documents. Until those details are confirmed, we are preserving his name here, and continuing the search so his story can be completed accurately.

If you are a family member, friend, or someone who served with him, even one photo, a service number, unit name, or a confirmed detail helps turn a name into a life.
