A Life and Service Remembered

Lloyd G. Mardlin was born in 1922 in Whalen Corners, Ontario, and came of age during the Second World War. He enlisted in February 1944 and entered military service at a time when Canada was still heavily engaged overseas. His training took him from Chatham to Ipperwash and Dundurn, where he developed the skills that would prepare him for service with the Canadian Army.

Although he first joined the infantry, Mardlin later served with No. 2 Canadian Transport Company in Canada and England. He specialized in the Bren gun and in Bren gun carrier work, earning the rank of Lance Corporal. In early 1945 he was deployed to England, where he remained until the war ended, serving at a number of locations and spending much of his time at Loos.

At this time, his service records are not publicly available, so the exact details of his wartime movements have not yet been confirmed.

After the war, Lloyd returned home and built a full life with his wife Isabel and their family. He lived long enough to see the generations that followed him, and when he passed away in 2016 he was remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Today, his service is honoured through the St. Marys Legion banner program and through the continued effort to preserve the stories of local veterans.
