A Life and Service Remembered
Stanley A. Corbett was born in Downie Township in 1918 and came of age during a time when the world was again heading toward war. In June 1940, less than a year after the outbreak of the Second World War, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and joined the Perth Regiment.
Serving with C Company, Corbett went overseas and spent part of the war in the United Kingdom before serving in Continental Europe. Like many men from Perth County and the surrounding area, he became part of a regiment with deep local roots and a strong connection to the communities it represented.
His wartime service carried him far from home, but his connection to St. Marys remained strong long after the war ended. After his discharge in October 1945, Corbett continued that bond through decades of membership with Branch 236 of the Royal Canadian Legion. His 57 years with the Legion reflect not only military service, but a lifelong commitment to remembrance and to the veteran community.
Stanley Corbett passed away on January 6, 1997. He is remembered for both his wartime service with the Perth Regiment and his many years of dedication to the Legion in St. Marys.
