A Life and Service Remembered
Winifred Ann (Stark) Maciver was born in Dundee and raised in Glasgow. Before the war, she worked as a secretary. During the Second World War, she served in Women’s Land Army, part of the essential “home front” workforce that kept farms running while so many men were overseas.
In 1948, she married Donald Maciver. In 1955, Winifred immigrated to Canada with her children, and the family made their home in St. Marys, where Donald taught at St. Marys DCVI.
Friends and family remembered her as someone who stayed engaged and busy. She enjoyed curling, bridge, and cryptic crosswords, and music was a constant through her life, she played the piano daily for as long as she was able. The obituary also describes her as a hard worker and a committed volunteer, including service as a Sunday school teacher, and involvement with IODE and a hospital auxiliary.
Winifred and Donald also made room for joy and adventure. They travelled widely, including trips to Italy, Greece, Bermuda, and Myrtle Beach, plus cruises in the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean.
She passed on November 2, 2016, at Kingsway Lodge in St. Marys.
