A Life and Service Remembered

Jack Stanley McNaughton was a young man from St. Marys who entered military service while still only nineteen years old.

Before enlisting, Jack worked with Mr. John Chisholm on the General Delivery in St. Marys. He enlisted in London in July and later crossed the Atlantic, with a local newspaper proudly reporting that he had recently arrived in England with the Infantry.

Military service was already very real to the McNaughton family. Jack’s older brother, Corporal Scott McNaughton, had served on the European battlefront and had recently returned on leave after being wounded.

The short newspaper notice captures a moment early in Jack’s own wartime journey. At this time, we have not located a public service summary for Jack McNaughton that confirms unit, service number, or specific dates of service. Until those details are confirmed, we are preserving his short story remains part of the wartime history of the St. Marys community and is remembered today through the Legion’s Veterans Banner Program.
