A Life and Service Remembered

Lorne Angelo Marziali was born in St. Marys in 1922  in what is now the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. He grew up with a strong interest in mechanical work. Before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, he had already developed a solid understanding of engines, a skill that would shape both his military service and his life afterward.

He enlisted in 1942 and trained as an aero-engine technician, learning the specialized skills needed to maintain and repair aircraft engines. His service took him to RCAF Station Clinton, and later to Trenton and Charlottetown, where he supported the air operations that were essential to Canada’s wartime effort. Though not serving overseas, his work helped ensure that aircraft and crews were ready whenever they were needed.

At this time, his service records are not publicly available, so the exact details of his wartime movements have not yet been confirmed.

After the war, Lorne returned home to St. Marys and built a life deeply connected to his community. He operated Marziali Garage for many years, becoming a well-known local business owner. Beyond his work, he was active in community life, including involvement with the St. Marys Community Players and many years with the Holy Name of Mary Church Choir.

Lorne passed away in August 2018 at the age of 96. He is remembered as a veteran, a business owner, and a dedicated member of the St. Marys community whose life reflected both service and commitment close to home.
