A Life and Service Remembered
Maurice Adrain Arthur Oliver was born in Winnipeg in 1930 and later made his home in St. Marys, where he became well known for both his photography and his dedication to community service. In November 1951, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and completed his training at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu before being posted to Clinton, Ontario.
There, he worked in the photo section, helping document the lives and training of young airmen learning the skills of modern air force service. His photographs captured the routines, discipline, and development of personnel during an important period in Canada’s postwar military. At this time, his service records are not publicly available, so the exact details of his service have not yet been confirmed.
After leaving the Air Force to assist his family, Maurice built a successful career in photography, founding Maurice Oliver Photography and Adanac Images. His work and dedication extended well beyond his profession. He was deeply involved in the St. Marys community, including more than five decades with the Rotary Club, and contributed his time to numerous local and international initiatives.
Maurice Oliver passed away on May 9, 2018, at the age of 87. He is remembered not only for his military service, but for a lifetime of community involvement, creativity, and quiet dedication to those around him.
